Diaz has applied for Nevada state boxing licence and could make his debut this year setting up third fight with bitter rival Conor McGregor in the boxing ring
NATE DIAZ has applied for a boxing licence and could make his debut in the ring late this year.
The UFC lightweight is set to follow in the footsteps of bitter rival Conor McGregor. The Notorious already has a California state boxing licence ahead of his rumoured match-up with Floyd Mayweather Jr.
The Nevada State Athletic Commission confirmed to ESPN.com they have been in close contact with Diaz for weeks. He is in the process of filing the paperwork for his licence, which is expected to be approved.

McGregor, Diaz’s biggest MMA rival, also wants a licence to fight in Nevada, which could set up a potential fight with Diaz at some point if the Mayweather Jr bout fails to materialise.
Diaz, 31, has long spoken about turning his attention to boxing and has been sparring with current WBA, WBO and IBF light heavyweight champion Andre Ward in preparation for his fighting switch.
McGregor and the former boxing great have been going back and forth about a potential boxing match. UFC president Dana White even made Mayweather a mega money offer for that bout last week on US sports show “The Herd".
The pair met twice in the Octagon last year, Diaz won the first by second round submission, but the Irishman bounced back winning by a majority decision in the return fight.
McGregor’s legal team will challenge sanctions meted out to the current UFC lightweight champion by Nevada state.
