INDY 500 racer Zach Veach survived an incredible pit stop as he drove off with his car on FIRE.
The 23-year-old American's car was engulfed in flames after a member of his Andretti Autosport team mistakenly sprayed fuel on the body of the car.
Fuel can be seen pouring from the pump and and catching fire on contact with Veach's car.
Mechanics panicked and threw water over the vehicle as Veach sped away. The driver managed to extinguish the flames with the force created by his acceleration.
The driver later tweeted that he was unscathed. He said: "Well today was 🔥... thankful my crew and others were all okay.
"Not the day we had hoped for. On to Detroit."
Veach went on to finish the race 23rd out of 33 to make it home.
Will Power, 37, became the first Australian to win the race, in its 102nd edition.
This year, Veach finished 16th at the first two races, posted a career-best fourth at Long Beach and was 23rd in the 24-car field at the IndyCar Grand Prix two weeks ago.
He finished 19th at Barber and 26th at Indianapolis in his only two starts last season.
