Rio Olympics: Laura Trott wants fiance Jason Kenny to keep winning gold medals – so she can become Lady Laura

LAURA TROTT wants fiance Jason Kenny to keep winning Olympic medals - so she can become Lady Laura.

Double London 2012 gold medal winner Trott made headlines four years ago when she emerged as Team GB’s breakthrough star of the Games.

But this time round it is her partner Kenny who can make history - with a chance to equal Sir Chris Hoy’s record of six Olympic golds in Rio.

Kenny, 28, goes for top honours in the men’s team sprint, the keirin and the sprint, while Trott aims to retain her titles in the women’s team pursuit and omnium.

Trott said: “Obviously this time he can improve and he can actually go level with Sir Chris’ record which is insane. And obviously I want him to become ‘Sir’ so I can become ‘Lady Laura.’ It sounds good!”

The 24-year-old won omnium gold in London in 2012 and this year on the same track at the World Championships in March.

And she will be arguably the most talented bike racer to take part in the entire Olympic Games this summer.

With two golds in 2012 and hopefully another two this summer, Trott will move on to four.

And if the pair hit their targets this summer, they could occupy the most bemedalled house in Britain - if not the world.

She added: “Every race we go to we want to win, so gold medals come with that, but I don’t think about breaking records.

“I jokingly said about breaking Sir Chris Hoy’s record, if I carried on, and I guess I’ll let you know after Rio how I feel about that.

“But it’s just a huge thing, it doesn’t seem like me, doesn’t feel like something I can achieve. I see Sir Chris as this god of cycling and for me, I am not that, I’m nowhere near that.”

HOW THEY RANK IN MEDALS

SIR CHRIS HOY: Olympic golds - 6
Sivers 1 Bronzes 0
JASON KENNY: Olympic golds 3
Silvers 1 Bronzes 0
(Competes in team sprint, keirin and sprint in Rio)
LAURA TROTT: Olympic golds 2
Silvers 0 Bronzes 0
(Competes in team pursuit and omnium in Rio)

But Team GB fans will be glad to know Trott is keeping her fiance’s feet firmly on the ground.

She said: “He’s not god! We do talk about it, obviously. I remember before London being like ‘we could win two gold medals’ and being really excited. But obviously this time he can improve and he can actually go level with Sir Chris’ record which is insane.”
