It has been no secret that athletes are using dating apps such as Tinder in order to meet other competitors with matches in the Village up 129 per cent on last weekend.

But Hines caused a strong reaction from loyal readers and other journalists by chatting to gay athletes and arranging to meet up.

In his article for the Daily Beast, Hines initially included the nationalities and sport of the athletes with the information provided enough to identify the athletes.

Readers have since blasted Hines' attempts of using Grindr by saying he is homophobic and disrupting their private lives.

In his article, Hines included that he 'didn't lie to anyone or pretend to be someone I wasn't' and used his own picture to attract athletes.
