Rio Olympics 2016: Britain’s super-heavyweight boxer Joe Joyce produces brutal first-round display against Davilson Dos Santos

Cape Verde fighter had no answer to the Team GB man who dominated in front of the watching Floyd Mayweather

JOE JOYCE produced a stunning Olympic debut as he stopped Cape Verde's Davilson Dos Santos in the first round.

The Team GB super-heavyweight, 30, displayed a brutal side as he dismantled his opponent to win by technical knock-out after the referee had intervened.

Joyce was at his opponent from the very first bell and Dos Santos looked shaky after a few early blows.

And the Londoner had him on the canvas shortly afterwards, a meaty left hand doing the damage.

When Dos Santos hit the deck again, the referee stepped in to save the Cape Verde fighter from injury.

A delighted Joyce revealed that his plan was to blitz his opponent early - and it was one that certainly worked.

He said: "I heard the 10-second bam, bam, bam (to go in the round) and I wanted to take him out so I managed to do it before the bell went for the end of the round.

"Normally I don't really have nerves, but I was in my room and I was like, 'Woah! It's the Olympics!"

Boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather was in attendance and Joyce was delighted to put on such a performance in front of Money.

He said: "I heard he was here, it's so good to show him what I can do."
