Rio Olympics 2016 medal table: Charlotte Dujardin gold pulls Great Britain clear of China in second place

CHARLOTTE DUJARDIN delivered Great Britain's 16th gold medal of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games as they remained second in the table behind the United States.

The London 2012 double gold medallist retained here individual crown in Brazil on Monday to add to her silver in the team event last week.

Mark Cavendish secured silver in the men's Omnium in track cycling on a slow day for British medals, especially when compared to the glorious gold rush at the weekend.

Tuesday comes with the guarantee of gold, though, with Giles Scott already assured of a sailing gold medal, and Laura Trott going strong in the women's Omnium.

China failed to win a gold medal on Monday and remained on 15 - one behind the British team.

The United States remain a long way clear atop the medal table with 26 golds and 75 medals overall.

The beginning of the wrestling competition has coincided with Russia climbing the charts into fourth place with 11 golds and 36 medals overall.

Italy and Germany both have eight gold medals in fifth and sixth place respectively with the former on 23 overall and the German team on 20.
