Zakharov is not there just in Rio to make up the numbers, however, far from it. He is the defending Olympic champion.

The 25-year-old won gold in London, defeating Chinese divers Qin Kai and He Chong, but he could not continue the form in Rio, pulling off what can only be labelled as a belly flop.

BBC commentator Leon Taylor described the dive as "dismal".
