Rio Olympics 2016: Michael Conlan offered medal by five-year-old after his fury at contentious decision that ended his dream
MICHAEL CONLAN might still be trying to calm down after being left furious at his defeat in Rio 2016‘s boxing tournament.
The Irish boxer launched a foul-mouthed rant after losing to Russian Vladimir Nikitin despite battering his opponent.
The 24-year-old labelled the AIBA “f*****g cheats” and said: “I’ll never box for AIBA again. They are cheating b******s.”
While the London 2012 bronze medallist dreamt of Olympic gold, he may yet be satisfied with his latest offer.
Conlan has won many fans for his efforts, and one of them offered him a medal.
A five-year-old fan named Finn penned a letter that has been doing the rounds on social media.
His touching note said: “I saw your fight in Rio and you should have won because you are the best boxer in the world.
“I want you to have my school medal because you are a winner.”
It’s very unlikely Conlan will take up the offer from young Finn, but let’s hope it inspires him to keep chasing and not give up on the sport.
