Rio Olympics 2016: Latvian rider Edzus Treimanis left with bloody face after crashing just four seconds into BMX run
THE Olympic BMX cycling event can be made to look pretty easy by the skilled riders, but there's always the chance of a mishap.
It's a discipline that requires immense skill, bravery and control of the bike to succeed.
But Latvian rider Edzus Treimanis found himself in the limelight for the wrong reasons on Wednesday as he failed miserably.
Treimanis lasted just four seconds after falling after the first jump in his run on Wednesday.
The Latvian was back on his feet, but when he removed his helmet, there was blood all over his face and head.

Fortunately for Treimanis, Wednesday was just the seeding run and there's plenty of time to put things right starting with the quarter-final on Thursday.
The 28-year-old won silver at the European Championships in 2011 and also qualified for London 2012.
He'll be hoping, though, that his lasting Olympic impression won't be one of his crash after just four seconds.
