TRAGIC Archie Bruce's family have flown to the south of France after he was found dead in his hotel room at the age of 20.

Most of the Batley players arrived back in England last night after delaying their return but coach Matt Diskin is staying in France to be with Bruce's family.

Batley director John Miller said: "The first concern, obviously, was for Archie's family.

"The second concern was to get the rest of the players back to their family and friends.

"One or two stayed on with the chairman, who is due to come back, but Matt is staying on to be with Archie's family.

"We don't know any more. All I know is that at 1am he was the happiest kid on the planet and a few hours later he's no longer with us."

Bruce was signed from local amateur club Dewsbury Moor in West Yorkshire and was found dead just hours after coming off the bench for the Bulldogs.

An investigation into the cause of his death is being launched.
