England can still improve claims skipper Dylan Hartley despite recording first series whitewash Down Under with win over Australia
Skipper lifted the Cook Cup after a brilliant tour for Eddie Jones and his fast-improving squad
ENGLAND captain Dylan Hartley believes his team still have a lot to work on despite beating Australia to record their first ever series whitewash Down Under.
England recorded a brilliant 44-40 win in Sydney to complete a series whitewash and extend Eddie Jones' winning run to nine.
But the England skipper believes his team are yet to play the "perfect game", despite making history on this tour.
He said: "We are very happy with the tour, we put a lot of pressure to play the perfect game and we can all agree it wasn't perfect today.
"But that was the last 80 mins of the season and I am proud of how the guys conducted themselves and we have made history.
"We have scored 44 points and not played the perfect game yet, there is still a lot to to work on, we are proud of what achieve down under.
"We will enjoy this for now, the boys have got five week off and then we will meet up and go again."
The two teams shared nine tries but Owen Farrell was the star, scoring 24 points with near-perfect kicking.
The centre nailed nine of his 10 kicks to keep England noses in front whenever Australia mounted a fight back.
Beaten Austrlia captain Stephen Moore urged the fans to stick by the Wallabies.
He said: "[England] deserved to win the series, they played well all year.
"We weren't good enough to win series.
"We played much better tonight, that's a positive.
"We're a tight group, I'd say to fans to stick with us, we're working hard to improve."
