And that means Edmund will face the winner of Andy Murray's clash with British No2 Aljaz Bedene - to be played on Thursday afternoon.

It will be the first time two Brits have clashed in the last eight at Queen's since tennis went professional in 1968.

And the last occasion that two British men contested an ATP Tour quarter final anywhere was in Adelaide in 2002, when Tim Henman defeated Greg Rusedski 6-4 6-4 before going on to win the title.

Top seed Murray beat Frenchman Nicolas Mahut 7-6 7-6 to make it this far, while Bedene beat another Frenchman Benoit Paire 7-6 6-7 6-4.

Edmund meanwhile won his first round clash against, you guessed it, another cross-Channel ace Gilles Simon, 6-4 3-6 6-1.
