Andy Murray hopes he has the right recipe for dethroning Serb Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon
British No1 will forgetti the spaghetti as he changes his diet in a bid to regain the SW19 title from the record-seeking legend
ANDY MURRAY thinks world No 1 Novak Djokovic’s domination of tennis is pasta joke.
The British No 1 now avoids the Italian food pre-match in a bid to regain his SW19 title from Djokovic, who follows a gluten-free diet.
Murray has been working for 18 months with Glenn Kearney, head of nutrition at the Lawn Tennis Association.
And they forgetti the spaghetti after an incident in the French Open second round win over Mathias Bourgue.
Murray, who struggled to keep down fluids on the only hot day of the Paris tournament, said: “I avoid pasta before matches now.
"Often, if I ate it too close to a match and then drank a lot, I was burping during the match which happened against Bourgue.
“I have a more balanced diet now. It is better planned.”
Murray learnt yesterday he will take on fellow Brit Liam Broady in the first round at SW19 on Tuesday.
Stockport-born Broady, the world No 234 and British No 6, said: “It’s a real David v Goliath, Leicester City winning the league situation.
“To play debatably the best or second best player on the grass in the world, is a once in a lifetime opportunity.”
Davis Cup hero James Ward takes on reigning champion Djokovic in the first match on Centre Court on Monday.
British No 2 Aljaz Bedene will play No 7 seed Richard Gasquet, while No 3 Kyle Edmund faces France’s Adrian Mannarino.
Edmund has confirmed he will compete at the Rio Olympics — should the ITF accept his Davis Cup appeal.
Players must be included in three Davis Cup squads in four years to qualify, but Edmund has played just once due to injury.
