US Open 2016: Naomi Broady into second round after win over fellow Brit Laura Robson
British No 3 won 6-7, 6-3, 6-4 to set up meeting with either fourth seed Agnieszka Radwanska or Jessica Pegula
NAOMI BROADY is into the second round of the US Open after beating fellow Briton Laura Robson.
The British No 3 beat the No 5 6-7, 6-3, 6-4 after a tense clash on court 13.
Broady, 26, will play either fourth seed Agnieszka Radwanska or American Jessica Pegula in the next round.
It was only Broady's second win at a major.
The last came all the way back in 2014 at Wimbledon.
The world No 82 was superb under pressure, saving eight of nine break points and scoring 16 aces.
Robson admitted that things got 'heated' after Broady took an extended toilet break after the second set.
She said: "Things got heated.
"I just let a couple of things get to me and started rushing a little bit.
"It’s disappointing that I didn’t handle it better."
