BARCELONA star Gerard Pique took some time away from the football pitch to challenge fellow sporting icon Novak Djokovic to a game of mini-basketball.

The pair met in London following Djokovic’s win over Dominic Thiem at the ATP World Tour Finals on Sunday.

Pique had earlier been pictured looking miserable in a seat just yards away from old adversary and current Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho at the O2 as the pair cheered on the Serbian.

But the former United defender appeared to have cheered up by the time he met good pal and World No 2 Djokovic backstage.

The pair then went head-to-head in a clash of their own as each of them tried to thread the tiny ball threw the tiny hoop in their bite-sized version of basketball.

Ever the competitive athletes, a video of the pair shows them screaming and shouting as they try to out-do each other.

Video evidence suggests they might be new to the sport as neither appears to come out on top and eventually they decide to call it a draw.

Quality of the spectacle aside, footage of the mini-match is now going viral on social media.

And apparently Djokovic – who was recently deposed as World No 1 by Brit hero Andy Murray - is not willing to throw the towel in on a basketball career just yet.

He said: “It’s never too late for basketball career.”

Maybe he should concentrate on winning back his spot at the top of the tennis rankings first!
