Andy Murray prepares to face Tennys Sandgren in first round of US Open whilst Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer are drawn on the same side of the competition
The draw has fallen in the favour of the Scot for his return following a hip problem that shattered his Wimbledon chances
Andy Murray is set to face American Tennys Sandgren in the opening round of the US Open.
The Scot has been seeded second for the competition as Rafael Nadal and Karolina Pliskova headline the final major of the year.
Murray has not played since his quarter-final exit at SW19, where he lost his number one title to Nadal.
Should the 30-year-old beat Sandgren, he will be scheduled to meet Argentinian Diego Schwartzman in round three, with the likes of David Ferrer, Lucas Pouille and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga waiting in the wings.
Sandgren is ranked 104 who only made his grand slam debut at the French Open this year, where he lost in the first round.
Nadal and Roger Federer are both on the other side of the draw, so they will not be able to meet Murray until the final.
Federer and Nadal have never faced each other at Flushing Meadows.
The men's tour is laced with injuries to high-profile players with Stan Wawrinka, Novak Djokovic, Kei Nishikori and Milos Raonic all absent.
World No1 Nadal will play Serbia's Dusan Lajovic in the opening round and Federer will face American Frances Tiafoe.
Maria Sharapova has been drawn to face No2 seed Simona Halep in the first-round, which will start on Monday.
The Russian was handed a wildcard by the United States Tennis Association following her 15-month suspension for drug use.
Sharapova has tallied six victories against the Romanian opponent, who finished runner-up at Roland Garros early this year.
