When the ex-UFC fighter was hired by the US TV company, he said: “It's as simple as this: Just when they think they've got the answers, I change the culture."

The 41-year-old was not in the studio this week when SmackDown superstar The Miz referenced and mocked the comment in a Twitter video.

But Punk was clearly left incensed, as replied a clip of The Miz and blasted: "Go suck a blood money covered d*** in Saudi Arabia you f***ing dork."

The tweet, which has now been deleted, looks to be taking aim at the WWE’s decision to travel to Saudi Arabia for their Crown Jewel pay-per-view event for the last two years.

Vince McMahon’s decision to work with the Middle Eastern regime has caused uproar from Human Activists.

Punk - who walked out on the WWE in 2014 on a bitter note after his infamous ‘Pipebomb’ - shocked many when he was announced as an analyst for the brand new Backstage programme.

But he maintains he has no relationship with the company, and revealed Fox is the only reason he works on the show.

Punk said: "I do not work with, have any relationship with and have not talked to anyone at WWE. It’s strictly a Fox thing. I get to criticise the product.

"I don't think this job existed six months ago. Somebody floated the idea and I didn't immediately go, 'Ugh, no'.

"I work for Fox. I haven’t talked to anybody in the WWE. It’s nothing I’m actively pursuing or interested in.

“But I’m 41 years old and I’ve lived an experienced life where I know to not say no.

"That's going to be a bridge that has to be built and it might take as long as building the Great Wall of China. There are some hurdles."
