Rhyno is best known to wrestling fans for his hardcore matches during his run in Extreme Championship Wrestling between 1999 and 2001, when he won the ECW world title.

Trump is  is no stranger to the squared circle himself, he was part of the famous hair vs hair storyline at WrestleManaia 23 in 2007 against owner Vince McMahon. The match saw McMahon's wrestler Umaga lose to Bobby Lashley, who was representing Trump. Trump then shaved McMahon's hair, but received a stunner from Stone Cold Steve Austin soon after in the middle of the ring.

Announcing his decision to enter the political race, Rhyno told WWE.com: "I’ve followed politics for decades. It’s something I’ve always had a passion for. I love my country, I love my state of Michigan and I love the city I live in. It’s something I’ve thought about doing for a while."

He also revealed to Fox Sports that his current boss, WWE chairman Vince McMahon, did not ask what party he was going to run for.

"I told Vince, 'I hope I make you proud.' He said, 'You already have.' He then followed up by saying if there was anything WWE can do to help to let them know.

"He didn't ask what party I was running for or this and that. The McMahons' love for their country is just contagious."

As the winner of the Republican Primary, Rhyno will now face Abdullah Hammoud, the winner of the 15th District Democratic Primary, in November's General Election.
