WWE to integrate gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender characters into their programming, says Stephanie McMahon
THERE has never been a gay character in a WWE storyline, and McMahon says that they are working with organisation GLAAD
WWE have confirmed that they will soon start to have LGBT characters in their programming.
WWE Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon, daughter of owner Vince, said that they are speaking with organisation GLAAD about how to portray the storyline appropriately.
There has never been a gay character in a WWE storyline.
McMahon said: "Throughout my life I have grown up knowing gay WWE superstars and executives. It's always been accepted, but now it's about getting that message out there.
"We will integrate LGBT characters into our programming... and I do think there will be an opportunity to integrate some of those storylines in the near future.
McMahon said the WWE's writers will be working closely with GLAAD (formerly known as the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) about how to execute the storylines properly.
