Recap
A lot has happened since the first Downton Abbey film, so you’d be forgiven for needing a memory jog!
Set in 1927, the main focus was the Crawley family and their servants getting ready to host King George V and Queen Mary as part of their royal tour of Yorkshire.
The Queen brought her lady-in-waiting, Maud Bagshaw, a relation of the Crawleys.
The Dowager Countess of Grantham, Violet, was furious that Maud planned on leaving her estate to her maid, Lucy Smith, rather than Robert Crawley.

The Dowager Countess correctly deduced that Maud was gifting her estate to Lucy because Lucy was her illegitimate daughter.
Violet stopped pushing for the estate to fall to Robert. Instead, seeing the romantic connection between Tom and Lucy, she plots for them to marry, returning the Brampton Estate to the Crawley family.
Feathers were ruffled when the royal household staff tried to take over service at Downton Abbey while the King and Queen visited.
This led to a scheme from the Downton staff to regain control, allowing them to prepare and serve the final dinner of the royal visit.
Edith got her share of excitement as she revealed she was pregnant.
However, there was a bittersweet ending as Violet confided in Lady Mary that she was gravely ill and potentially didn’t have long to live.

How to prepare for the sequel
If you’re looking for some Downton Abbey-themed fun to get you in the Downton Abbey mindset – Sun Bingo has you covered!
- Downton Abbey Bingo
Why not make a play-along bingo card filled with likely events and character actions that you can mark off during the film?
Draw a 3x3 grid. Pick eight potential plotlines / character actions and note them down (leaving the middle space blank).
In the blank space, note your Downton Abbey name (e.g. Lord / Lady *Your grandparent’s name* *Location of your primary school*).
If one of your noted actions happen, mark it off! See if you can get a full house (Sun Bingo doesn’t encourage shouting “Bingo” if you’re watching the film in a cinema).
Here are some likely events / character actions that you could use:
- The Dowager Countess puts someone in their place with a look or comment.
- Mrs Patmore complains about Daisy.
- Anna and Mr Bates share a sweet moment.
- The family get dressed up for a dinner or event.
- Mary insults Edith.
- Tom makes a comment about the aristocratic lifestyle.
- Robert has a dog beside him.
- Thomas Barrow plots / seeks revenge.

Game 1 features symbols including Mr Carson, Anna and Thomas Barrow.
Game 2 features the likes of Lady Mary, Lady Edith and the Earl of Grantham.
Game 1 is always active and features 40 paylines. To play, select a coin size between 1p and 50p.
Your bet total is 100 x your coin size (ie, between £1 and £50). Click the “play” arrow to spin!
If a service bell lands in the top position of reel 3, the Upstairs Downstairs feature is enabled.
This activates Game 2, which has 243 ways to win. Also, when Game 2 is activated, all the wilds that are currently on Game 1 are replicated and will appear in corresponding positions on Game 2!

This means that between 1 and 10 wilds will randomly be added to Game 1.
When five red roses are on the active game boards, the Downton Village Flower Show feature is triggered!
You’re the judge and get to pick from 30 symbols, each of which will reveal either a prize, trophy, Duty Calls, Reels of Wealth or Manor on the Move.
Possible prizes include a multiplier of 100, 200, 300, 400, 500 or 750 x your coin bet.
The trophies will reveal either a prize or a win of one of the jackpots.
The prizes include a multiplier of 100, 1500, 2500 or 5000 x your coin bet.
The jackpots currently stand as follows:
- The Village Jackpot – over £182.
- The Crawley Jackpot – over £342.
- The Grantham Jackpot – over £42,102.
Players keep picking from the 30 symbols until two matching Duty Calls, Reels of Wealth or Manor on the Move symbols are revealed.
Selecting any of these symbols will trigger their free games’ feature.
The Downton Abbey Flower Show is played at the same coin bet as the spin which activated this feature.
