AN INGENIOUS Scottish dad sidestepped easyJet's £96 excess baggage fee — by taking 15 tops out of his suitcase and wearing them instead.

John Irvine, 46, from Glasgow and his family were on their way back home from France on Saturday night when he had his brainwave.

When they checked in at the airport staff pointed out that one of the bags was over weight and asked if they would pay the extra, when John offered a cheaper solution — to wear the extra weight on his person.

His son Josh filmed the clip and posted it on twitter with the caption: "Suitcase was over the weight limit in the airport so ma Da whipped oot aboot 15 shirts n wacked every one a them on to make the weight c**t wis sweatin’."

Josh told: "We never thought we’d be over the weight limit by 8 kilos.

"The lassie at the counter asked us if we wanted to pay extra but my dad just looked up at her and said 'hen, watch this' and zipped open the suitcase and quickly flung on about 15 jumpers to help cut down the weight.

"The staff were in stitches with laughter but trying to get through the security was a struggle because they thought he was trying to smuggle something under all his clothes.

"Thankfully we got through eventually."

The hilarious video has since been viewed over 475k times with with comments pointing out the Joey from friends connections and others posting they might just copy the idea themselves.
