Facebook and Instagram BACK – apps now working again after mystery 2-hour outage
Facebook and Instagram are back working again after outages and problems were reported across the UK and Europe this afternoon.
Thousands of users reported being affected.
Facebook not working - what went wrong?
Online outage tracker began logging complaints about Facebook being down across Europe at 2pm (BST) this afternoon.
There was a spike in reports of people experiencing problems with Instagram around the same time.
Over 1,300 people reported issues.
However, not everyone was affected as some staff were able to access Facebook in The Sun office.
We have reached out to Facebook for comment.

Another said: "Anyone else's Facebook not working?"
What info does Facebook hold on you?
- All the data on your profile - name, age, marital status, where you went to work, and so on.
- Your activity on the site - which posts you like, pages followed, photos shared.
- Its tracker cookies (which most websites use) can even follow you around the internet, so Facebook can also get an idea of the types of websites you like to visit – to serve you more relevant advertisements.

This type of outage could only get worse in the future: Facebook recently revealed a plot to merge Messenger with Instagram and WhatsApp.
The planned move immediately raised privacy concerns among users and experts.
But billionaire Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg assured everyone that the merger wouldn't happen until 2020.
