Facebook unveils NEW logo that will appear on WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger too

FACEBOOK has unveiled a brand new corporate logo that will soon appear across all of the firms apps.

It's supposed to show users that the firm owns and runs popular services like Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp and Oculus.

When Facebook first launched 15 years ago, it was a single website that did one job: connecting people.

Now Facebook is a corporate titan that dominates the social media industry with popular apps.

That's why Facebook has invented a new logo for its main business, which will connect all of its apps together.

"We're updating our company branding to be clearer about the products that come from Facebook," said Antonio Lucio, Facebook's marketing chief.

"We're introducing a new company logo and further distinguishing the Facebook company from the Facebook app, which will keep its own branding."

Facebook says that the move is to improve transparency.

It's not universal knowledge that Facebook runs seemingly rival apps like Instagram or WhatsApp, for instance.

And Facebook has been widely criticised for having what some describe as a "monopoly" on the social media world.

"This brand change is a way to better communicate our ownership structure to the people and businesses who use our services to connect, share, build community and grow their audiences," Antonio explained.

The new logo is a simple capitalised font that reads "FACEBOOK", and appears in a range of different colours.

It won't replace the Facebook app's own blue logo, which is lower case and uses a thicker font.

"The new branding was designed for clarity, and uses custom typography and capitalisation to create visual distinction between the company and app," Antonio said.

Facebook says that the new branding will appear inside apps and marketing materials over "the coming weeks".

And the firm is also setting up a new company website that will use the new logo too.
