Samsung reveals bizarre ‘future phone’ with trick to tempt iPhone owners
SAMSUNG has revealed cutting-edge screen technology to rival Apple products.
The company has unveiled bendable and slidable screens to be used in phones, PCs and TVs - which could lure consumers away from iPhones and Macs.
The foldable screen means users can benefit from a bigger display without sacrificing on bag or pocket space.
The new tech will be displayed at an invitation-only exhibit at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the world’s biggest tech event, in Las Vegas this week.
Samsung is set to show off its newest innovation at the first CES convention since the Covid-19 pandemic struck, which kicks off on Thursday.
Beyond bendy screens, there are two slidable displays, intended to bring gaming to the next level.
The move signals that the Korean technology giant has upped its bet on the foldable-screen market.
The company’s latest clamshell-shaped mobile phone, the Galaxy Z Flip 4, was unveiled to a positive reception in August last year.
The new model had tried to repair where its predecessor was lacking in terms of battery life, although critics at the time did not think it was a huge advancement.
But the bendy tech won’t just be for the average consumer mobile or PC.

The company has announced it is building a new digital cockpit experience to target the blossoming self-driving vehicle market, currently being spearheaded by eccentric billionaire Elon Musk.
Samsung is hoping its 34-inch curved screen will be installed in the new league of cars being made at the moment.
The futuristic display will be used for entertainment when an electric car is in autonomous driving mode, allowing passengers to catch up on the latest episode of their TV show while travelling to their destination.
One Samsung Display official said the car screen will be “a key part of luxurious car interior design as it adds ‘perfect black expression’ to design".
An extra step above the cockpit TV is a visual set-up for the living room.
The new Samsung line-up for this year also features a mega 77-inch TV screen, for a price yet-to-be revealed.
