FACEBOOK Messenger could soon have a feature that harks back to the days of MSN.
The popular chat app is apparently working on an addition that is not too dissimilar from Instagram and WhatsApp.
Which is no surprise given that they're all owned by Mark Zuckerberg's tech giant Meta.
Insiders have noticed that developers are working on a new status function.
According to screenshots published by social media expert , you'll be able to post a status that appears on your Messenger account.
It looks like the feature will only let you post 60 characters - so no long-winded life stories.

And the status will automatically disappear in 24 hours.
Or you can choose your own duration for how long the status will be up on the platform.
You will be able to choose from a set time or simply create a custom one.
It also seems you'll be able to choose from a selection of pre-set statuses.

This includes things like cooking, gaming or working.
Apparently it's not the first time Facebook has tested such a feature.
As with any early leak, there's no telling when it will launch for everyone - if at all.
So we'll have to wait and see whether Meta decides to make it available to the masses at some point in the future.
