This new game is Fall Guys for music fans – and Xbox owners can play it for free
BATTLE Royale games are one of the newest genres in gaming, having exploded in popularity in the last few years.
Games like Fortnite and Call of Duty Warzone pull in millions of players every day, with every player competing to be the last person standing.
While some of these games are focused towards more competitive players, others like Fall Guys are more about having fun in silly situations.
A new game added to Xbox Game Pass recently falls into the latter category, taking Fall Guys’ basic premise and turning it into a silly rhythm game.
It’s called Headbangers: Rhythm Royale, and we’ve been playing it over the past couple of weeks to test it out.
In Headbangers, you play as a cartoon pigeon with a stretchy, elastic neck who’s passionate about music and keeping to the beat.

You and up to 30 other players will compete in a series of rhythm minigames over four different rounds.
At the end of each round, the worst-performing players will be knocked out, and eventually after all four rounds, one player will be crowned the victor.
There’s a decent amount of variance in the rhythm minigames, and each of them bring something new and different to the table.
That said, it can get a little bit repetitive at times, because most of the minigames are some variation of Simon.

A situation will play out in front of you, and you’ll then have to repeat those actions with your pigeon.
The actions you’re required to perform get more complex and faster as time goes on, which keeps you on your toes throughout the round.
One of the minigames, for example, is styled around a fitness class, where the instructor executes a series of moves and you have to repeat them.
Another is a game of whack-a-mole, where moles will pop up in a particular rhythm once, and then you’ll have to memorise that and hit the moles in that order.
As said earlier though, because most of these games are variations of the same theme, it tends to get a bit dull.
I found that I could only really play one or two matches before getting bored, although you could probably have fun just by checking in once or twice a day anyway.
The music isn’t anything spectacular either, it’s fairly subdued and focused heavily on beats rather than musicality.
At the very least, the pigeon designs are very cute and funny, and you can earn points by playing the game to unlock outfits to dress them up with.
The designs are a little bit like Chicken Run in a way, very cartoony and silly, with just a hint of plasticine to them.
