Xbox is considering a new tier of Game Pass that you can grab completely free – but there’s a catch

It seems that Xbox will expand Game Pass even further.

XBOX is often thought of as the best option for gamers on a budget with one of the cheapest current-gen consoles.

Not only does the Xbox Series S frequently drop to less than £200, but Game Pass offers great value to gamers.

It appears that Xbox could be leaning further into its niche as the budget-friendly console with discussion of a new option for gamers.

According to , Xbox’s chief financial officer Tim Stuart discussed the new option at the Wells Fargo TMT summit.

Stuart said: “For models like Africa, or India, Southeast Asia, maybe places that aren’t console-first, you can say, ‘hey, do you want to watch 30 seconds of an ad and then get two hours of game streaming?’”

This statement suggests that Xbox is considering a new tier of Game Pass that would be free to players.

However, like a number of free-to-play mobile games, it would feature unskippable adverts every few hours of gaming.

This would be a great opportunity for people who can’t afford the monthly fee for the service.

While Stuart only discusses three regions, it seems the idea is in the early stages and much more planning would have to take place before release.

Xbox has already developed a Game Pass only console codenamed the Keystone, but it is waiting until the console can be produced at the right price point before it is released.

The Head of Microsoft Gaming, Phil Spencer, claims that the company is aiming for the $99 (£99) price point before the console goes on sale.

If the Keystone is released with this proposed tier for Game Pass, then it would be an exceptional deal for budget gamers.

Not everyone can afford each new game as it is released, but Game Pass allows many people to play big-budget games, sometimes on day one.
