THOUSANDS of artifacts and skeletons discovered in Brazil have now been dated.

The National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute recently announced the discovery.

It said: "This site, dating back more than 6 thousand years, is a testimony to the long history of human occupation on the island of São Luís, demonstrating a past that precedes conventional historical records in Brazil.

Excavations are still taking place at the site, which contains so much treasure.

Precious artifacts include ceramics and pottery.

Researchers are planning to use a more precise type of dating to confirm their theories.
