However, there is a new scam that has been popping up on Steam that could easily trick users.

The scam involves using a game that is already being sold on the Steam store.

Scammers steal the assets of a popular game and put them on their store page.

Currently, the most popular game to mimic is Helldivers 2, which is one of the best-selling releases of February 2024.

More in Steam

Not only does the fake game’s name read Helldivers 2, but all the images and videos also mimic the authentic game.

The scammers have gone as far as to change the name of the developer and publisher so that everything matches the real game exactly.

One of the key ways that you can tell a fake game from an original, is that the scam version will usually advertise the game for a deep discount.

Steam has been trying to remove these fake games as quickly as possible, and at the time of writing we could not find any of these copied.

However, it is important for Steam users to stay vigilant, and make sure that they don’t purchase any unwanted games.

If you do find that the game you purchased was not the one that was advertised, then Steam has a great refund policy.

Simply go to Steam’s help page, select the game you require the refund for, and give your reason for requesting the refund.
