X banned in Brazil after Elon Musk was warned of 24-hour deadline – but refused to comply with judge’s order

The judge previously told Musk if he didn't block certain X accounts, he would be fined almost $20,000 a day

A BRAZILIAN supreme court justice has banned X after Elon Musk refused to name a legal representative in the country.

Justice Alexandre de Moraes and Musk have previously crashed when the billionaire refused to block users on the social media platform.

Foreign companies need a representative to legally do business in Brazil.

The judge gave Musk 24 hours to comply which Musk refused to follow.

Brazil has not had an X representative since early August and De Moraes said the social media site will be blocked until Musk appoints one.

De Moraes also instated a fine of 50,000 Brazilian reals, the equivalent of nearly $9,000, for people who try to use a virtual private network to access X.

Musk's platform is banned in other countries including Russia, China, Iran, Myanmar, North Korea, Venezuela, and Turkmenistan, according to .

'WE WILL NOT COMPLY'

A statement was to X on the site's Global Government Affairs page stating its awareness of the ban and why it was happening.

It also discussed what happened with the company's former legal representative.

"When we attempted to defend ourselves in court, Judge de Moraes threatened our Brazilian legal representative with imprisonment. Even after she resigned, he froze all of her bank accounts," it read.

"Our challenges against his manifestly illegal actions were either dismissed or ignored. Judge de Moraes’ colleagues on the Supreme Court are either unwilling or unable to stand up to him."
