A HUGE overhaul of Ring’s subscription plans come into force today with a long-awaited new security feature launching – but you’ll have to pay extra to use it.
The Amazon-owned video doorbell device now has three subscription tiers instead of two.
Fortunately, existing prices remain the same at £4.99 per month and £7.99 per month respectively.
But there are some important changes to be aware of.
Firstly, the plans have been renamed to Ring Home Basic and Ring Home Standard.
And there are some new features thrown in at no extra cost too.
New video preview alerts show a short clip in the push notification, meaning Ring owners can instantly see what triggered a motion alert without even needing to open the app.
Standard users will also find extended live view, allowing people to watch your camera feed live for up to 30 minutes at a time.
However, the most exciting new feature coming to Ring will be reserved to Ring Home Premium.
Ring Home Premium is now the platform’s most expensive tier at £15.99 per month.
It comes with 24/7 recording, so video footage is saved for a maximum of 14 days giving users a chance to check and download any they wish to keep.
24/7 recording is only available on selected devices, including Ring Stick Up Cam, Stick Up Cam Pro, Indoor Camera (2nd Gen) and Pan-Tilt Indoor Camera.

Cheaper Ring doorbell alternatives?
By Jamie Harris, Assistant Technology and Science Editor at The Sun
Ring is the first name people think of when it comes to video doorbells because they’re reliable and easy to use.
But there are some alternative brands around – and they don’t all require a subscription for the main feature, video recordings.
Instead of storing them in the cloud you can store them on a local hard drive at no extra cost.
Find out some of the best alternatives here.
