Lego Horizon Adventures delivers a witty family-friendly version of Horizon Zero Dawn
PLAYSTATION fans are always eager for new entries of Sony’s signature video game series, but triple-A games are taking longer than ever to make.
Lego Horizon Adventures aims to bridge the gap between major releases and prove that you don’t need a massive new game from its popular franchises every year to have fun.
It reimagines the story of Horizon Zero Dawn in the usual lighthearted style Lego games are known for.
The game takes the serious story of Aloy and gives it a fourth-wall-breaking family-friendly makeover that will get the laughs of kids and parents alike.
It does make a few changes to the original story, but nothing that breaks the established Horizon canon.
Despite being a spinoff, it is a faithful retelling of the original game, and even players who haven’t played the main series will easily get the gist of Aloy’s 31st-century adventure.

The combat system is simplified compared to Horizon’s main entries, but it retains most of the original’s elements.
Once again, you’ll be fighting dinosaur-like machines with your bow, exploiting weak points and elemental effects.
Aloy’s companions from the original game are also playable, and they come with their own weapons and lend themselves to different playstyles.
Horizon Adventures swaps the open world of Zero Dawn for a level-based structure, with each level introducing new enemies and bosses.

Just like in the main games, there’s loot to grab and Tallnecks to climb, and you even get some side activities to explore, such as optional predator hunts.
Of course, it’s a Lego game, so you’re encouraged to break everything you see to collect Lego studs, which allow you to unlock cosmetic items.
Horizon Adventures is great to play with a friend, too, as it offers both online and couch co-op multiplayer.
Unlike other Lego games, you can’t switch between your playable characters at any time, but only at the start of each level.
And since you can’t replay individual story missions, you will have to start a new playthrough if you want to see how a level plays out with a different character.
Horizon Adventures looks gorgeous in 4K on a regular PS5, even in 60fps performance mode.
All in all, the game is a great way to relive one of PlayStation’s most popular series, or to introduce it to new fans with the witty style of a Lego game.
As a spinoff title, Lego Horizon Adventures will also be available on Nintendo Switch and PC when it launches tomorrow, November 14, 2024.
