Spotify down updates: Thousands report outage as music not loading on the streaming platform

SPOTIFY has gone down for thousands with customers unable to play their favourite tracks.

More than 21,000 customers have logged complaints on the Downdetector website, which measures outages, since 1pm this afternoon.

The vast majority are experiencing problems with the app.

    At the peak of the outage, there have been over 21,000 reports.

    However, the reports have dropped dramatically to only 2,500 customers in the last 20 minutes.

    Earlier, rumours started swirling around about Spotify potentially being hacked.

    However, the streaming company quickly shot down any speculations online.

  • Hacking rumours

    Spotify has been down for over two hours.

    This has prompted some users to speculate that the streaming platform has been hacked.

    One person wrote: "Hard to believe this “outage” isn’t caused by some kind of hack on larger infrastructure."

    Another user said: "Spotify got hacked from China and are stealing USA citizens identity. They will use data collected to hack more, sell info on the dark web, and user data collected to form clones."

    A third person said: "Say what you will, but Russia has some seriously talented hackers."

  • Two hours without Spotify

    It has now been two hours since the outage reports started pouring in.

    There has not been an update from Spotify since the platform stated that the issue is being investigated.

  • Second outage in a week

    Just a week ago, over 8,000 users reported having issues with Spotify.

    The app also went down in March with more than 4,000 customers experiencing problems with the app.

    However, today is the biggest Spotify outage in recent times as over 40,000 users were logged off in US and over 20,000 in the UK.

  • 'FIX IT'

    Furious customers have urged Spotify to fix the issue quicker as they grow impatient.

    People have also complained that it is harder to work, go to gym, commute or study without music.

  • Spotify is back up for some users

    Some users online have reported that the issue has been fixed for them.

    It is worth checking if your app is back on now.

  • Global issue

    Users in the US and across Europe have also reported problems with accessing the app.

    In the US, over 46,000 customers are unable to stream music on the platform.

  • Reports slowly dropping

    Reports on Downdetector have slowly decreased.

    However, there are still 12,000 customers experiencing the outage.

  • Fans defend Spotify from backlash

    While some users have demanded compensation or threatened to switch to Apple Music, Youtube Premium or Amazon, others have come to Spotify's defence.

  • Customers demand financial compensation

    Some customers have demanded to be reimbursed for the lost streaming time while the app is out.

    One person said: "I am going to require financial compensation."

    Another one added: "U should give us all Spotify premium for the inconvenience."

    A third user wrote: "Give us spotify Premium for 2 weeks bc of the problem."

  • Users threaten to leave the platform

    Fuming fans have threatened Spotify to cancel their subscription.

    One person said: "Yall got 20 mins until I become an Apple Music user."

    Another one added: "I'm this close to going back to the 90s, installing winamp and torrenting a bunch of mp3s.

    "Don't make me do it. this is your final warning."

    A third person wrote: "So embarrassing should we switch to apple music?"

    Spotify outage comes at the same time as BBC iPlayer viewers reported problems with accessing shows.

    Some users have been left without any forms of entertainment as both music streaming and video platforms went down.

    Majority of users have had trouble with the App (66%).

    However, for some (17%) the website isn't loading either.

    Almost 22,000 people in the UK are experiencing issues with Spotify.

    The reports started at around 1pm and quickly increased.
