APOCALYPSE NOT

Boston Dynamic’s Atlas robot falls over during demonstration meant to show off its ‘nightmare inducing’ skills

ARE you worried about humanity being wiped out during the rise of the machines? This video will put your mind at rest

A ROBOT described as “nightmare inducing” has taken a spectacular drop on-stage at a prominent technology bash.

Boston Dynamic’s four-legged, two-wheeled hybrid cyborg is widely regarded as one of the most advanced – and frightening – robots in the western world.

But when the ‘bot, which is called Atlas, was wheeled out during the Congress of Future Scientists and Technologists, it left little fear in the audiences’ minds.

It was supposed to show off its human-like abilities when it came to moving around the stage and picking up objects.

But it turns out robots can be pretty clumsy, too.

As its maker addressed the audience of budding tech experts, Atlas went to make his way offstage.

But it appears to have missed a step and tumbles to the ground, disappearing behind the curtains as the audience tittered.

Britain’s biggest boff Professor Stephen Hawking has made several warnings about how artificial intelligence and robots will conspire against us.

But the sight of Atlas’ unfortunate stumble will leave you feeling pretty optimistic about humanity’s chances if the machines ever rise against us.

It’s not the first time Boston Dynamics’ robots have gone viral.

A leaked clip revealed how the military-funded firm’s latest invention can leap into the air and spin on demand.

The bots, which are yet to be let loose on the public, could one day be governed by a set of robot rules and regulations.

Harvard, MIT and technology giants splashed £22m on making sure robots do what they are told rather turning on their human creators.
