'BAN RAPE ROBOTS'

Sex robot with ‘resistance settings’ that let men simulate rape should be BANNED, barrister says

SEX robots that allow men to simulate rape should be banned, a children's campaigner and barrister has said.

Kate Parker, the founder of The Schools Consent Project, says it should be a criminal offence for men to own the sick machines and has slammed a popular brand of sex robot which comes with a "resistance"; setting.

Sex robots are taking the world by storm, with several companies offering romping cyborgs that look just like humans.

But Parker says that one bot is particularly dangerous, as it could promote rape in society.

That bot is Roxxxy, made by US company True Companion.

For $9,995 (£7,395), lonely bot lovers can pick one of 73 hair colours in 39 styles.

They can choose eye colour, eyebrow colour, pedicure colour, skin tone, even the shape of their pubic hair.

But Parker's main concern is Roxxxy's settings, which gives each android a different "personality".

One of these settings is called "Frigid Farrah".

"In simulating resistance, it enables users to simulate rape," Parker writes in her blog.

However, Parker believes they will be abused

She has called for sex robots of this nature to be "outlawed accordingly" because, she says, the robot cannot consent.

"We may yet see a case where a defendant’s use of Frigid Farrah-type technology is advanced before the jury as evidence of his predilection for non-consensual sexual acts, thereby undermining any defence that they either didn’t have sex or that the complainant consented to it," she said.

What is a sex robot?

Robots already build our appliances, clean our homes and make our food – but now they're about to change how we get jiggy.

Sex robots are essentially realistic dolls that have sophisticated movements and "areas" that closely mimic humans so that they can romp.

Prof Noel Sharkey, chairman of the Foundation for Responsible Robotics, said guilt-free threesomes was just one of the potential uses for sex robots.

Others include “teledildonics” - wireless technology which allows a person to stimulate their partner remotely and already exists in vibrators on the market.

Sex bots will become hyper-realistic with features such as built-in heaters to create the feeling of body warmth.

They will also have sensors to react to your touch.

One company is even developing a head that can speak, smile and sing for its robot sex dolls.

Sex doll Harmony claims to be the first to offer an "emotional connection".

Experts say these specialised robots will start to appear in ordinary homes in the next decade.

Some might say that men should have the right to do what they wish in their own homes, as long as nobody is being harmed.

Women, after all, don't get in trouble for indulging in rape role play fantasy.

But Parker claims that similarly to pornography, Roxxxy's could "encourage interest in violent or aberrant sexual activity".

Whether the law will step in is unclear, but for now, sex robots are causing a huge stir.

The Spanish “sex doll agency” LumiDolls is looking for investors to help fund the creation of a robo-bordello in London which will let men legally have sex with spooky-looking love dolls.

Men and women who have decided to have sex with love machines should think very carefully about whether it's considered cheating or not.

A top psychologist has given her thoughts on what can only be described as a very modern conundrum.
