Pornhub reveals how it will AGE-CHECK your smutty viewing in UK this year
XXX websites are preparing to regulate your porn viewing, in order to comply with new and restrictive government legislation
PORNHUB'S owners have revealed a new age-check tool that aims to stop kids from accessing XXX material online.
Once AgeID rolls out, anyone trying to get onto porn sites in the UK will need to verify that they're older than 18.
It's part of the porn industry's preparations for the Digital Economy Act 2017, which is due to come into force in Britain later this year.
The Act will allow the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) to regulate adult-content websites.
But the responsibility of blocking access to minors falls on the shoulders of porn sites.
That's why Mindgeek – the company that owns Pornhub, Redtube, YouPorn and Brazzers – has unveiled AgeID.
Anyone accessing adult websites from within the UK will be prompted to 'Verify my Age'.
This will create a "secure login" for all future access, and will let you browse all AgeID-protected sites.
It also means you'll be able to use multiple devices for your smutty browsing, without the need for repeated verification.
Your age will be verified by a third-party company, and Mindgeek says that no personal information will be stored on the AgeID platform.
AgeID spokesperson James Clark said: "We have created a tool to comply with the impending UK legislation, which both protects children from stumbling across adult content, and enables those of legal age to securely and privately access adult websites through a one-time verification process."
It's not clear how users will verify their age, but it could involve submitting credit card info or a form of ID, like your passport or driver's licence.
AgeID will be launched in line with the Digital Economy Act 2017, which is currently set to come into force in April 2018.
However, the UK Government still hasn't finalised the details of the Act.
