SURVIVAL horror The Last of Us is getting a part two soon – but when is it out?
All we know for sure at the moment is that it's going to be coming out on PS4, and it looks highly unlikely to be out this year.
Naughty Dog confirmed The Last of Us Part II way back in 2016 – so it's incredibly frustrating that we're still hanging on for a proper release date.
It was rumoured to be heading our way in late 2019, but the confirmation that Death Stranding was coming this November killed that idea stone dead.
There are three big PS4 exclusives left - Death Stranding, Ghost of Tsushima, and The Last of Us Part 2.
We know that the fourth quarter of this year is bringing us Kojima's mysterious epic, and that Sony is very unlikely to release any of the three near the other two.
With Ghost of Tsushima entirely MIA since E3 2018 that seems most likely to be the final one out, which puts it in the second half of 2020.
That means Naughty Dog's TLoU2 is set for Spring 2020 at the earliest.
The full gameplay reveal at E3 blew everyone away, but still didn't come with info about when it was coming out.
We know that motion capture for the game's final scene has been completed -- but that's not hugely helpful, given it is common to shoot things out of sequence, and we don't know how much work there is to do outside of the capture.
Naughty Dog were also still looking to hire people to do some of that work in May 2019, though, suggesting that there's still a long wait.
The game's co-director Anthony Newman posted a list of job openings "to help us close out this game" on May 10, including level designers, multiple melee / gameplay animators and more.
While some of those will be for work that might end up as post-launch content, a lot of the jobs cover such core facets of the game, it seems closing it out might take some time.
Sony confirmed in May that it's coming to PlayStation 4 -- but it could also be out for PlayStation 5.
That is due out next year, and leaks suggest a number of late PS4 games may well be cross-generational and be playable on PS5 too.
The new game is set five years after the original story ended, however, you'll now play as a 19-year-old Ellie, rather than an older and less sprightly Joel.
However, that doesn't mean the game itself is done.
Back in 2013, developer Naughty Dog debuted The Last of Us to critical acclaim.
The incredible and terrifying action-adventure game saw players take up the role of Joel, a bereaved father who helps escort teenager Ellie across a post-apocalyptic America.
They're forced to contend with zombie-style cannibal humans that have been taken over by mutant fungus, as well as hostile people too.
The impressive visuals, strong narrative and excellent character development made the game an instant hit – so there's plenty of hype for a sequel.
For a game that is quite so grim and gritty, there has been a surprisingly large demand for merchandise so people can show off their love for the franchise.
As part of Outbreak Day 2018, Insert Coin revealed their first The Last of Us t-shirt, .
Naughty Dog has used Outbreak Day as a way to celebrate the Last of Us' incredible community by releasing new and exclusive items, content, and special promotions.
This year marks the 5th anniversary of Outbreak Day, September 26, which was listed as the official date of the outbreak reaching 'critical mass' in the original game.
Developer Naughty Dog has celebrated the date as far back as 2013, which matches up with the time of the outbreak in the game's world.
This year gamers got a new Last of Us Part 2 PS4 theme and avatars, along with , , .
The original game got some love too, including and
