New FREE Spotify app lets you choose the songs you want to hear
The music streaming service has revamped its official app to give non-paying users a better experience

SPOTIFY has unveiled a brand new version of its free smartphone app that let's you CHOOSE the songs you want to play.
Previously, only paid-up Spotify members could pick songs they want to hear – while free users have to put up with shuffled playlists.
The app redesign isn't exactly a surprise – it's been rumoured for weeks.
But at a special event in New York today, Spotify confirmed that a new version of the app was on the way.
You'll be able to choose songs on-demand, but you'll be limited to tracks on a selection of 15 personalised 'Discovery' playlists.
That works out at roughly 750 songs, or approximately 40 hours of music.
For the rest of the songs on Spotify, it'll work exactly like the old version of the app.
You'll be able to choose albums or playlists, but you won't be able to select the exact order of playback.
Free users will still have to endure regular breaks for ads too.
And Spotify will be keeping on its premium subscription tier, which lets users pay to choose any song – and listen completely ad-free.
The Swedish music tech giant has also added a new low-data mode.
This promises to cut your mobile data usage by around 75%, although the quality of the audio will be reduced to make this possible.
That's good news – you'll be able to listen to Spotify on-the-go without panicking about using up all of your phone's monthly data allowance.
Spotify first launched a free version of the app on mobile back in 2014.
And it's been a major boost to the service, allowing Spotify to climb to enormous user figures.
Spotify currently has 90million free users, and 70million paid-up subscribers forking out around £9.99 each month.

But Spotify is facing stiff competition from Apple Music, a tough rival built by the Californian iPhone maker.
Earlier this year, it was revealed that Apple now has around 36million subscribers, and looks set to overtake Spotify in the US for paid membership in 2018.
Spotify's new free app update will roll out to iPhone and Android users in the "coming weeks".
