RE-LIGHT MY FIRE

Spyro Reignited Trilogy release date, PS4, Xbox 360 previews and more

Spyro Reignited is a perfect blend of nostalgia and modern design

WHILE many remakes are just lazy cash-ins from studios devoid of ideas, others are a great excuse to revisit fond memories and even introduce new people to their magic.

The re-release of the original Spyro trilogy, coming this November 13, looks to be the latter, and will be a great way for young parents who remember the mischievous little dragon to have a joyful shared experience with their own children.

Dispatching enemies with fire or a swift headbutt is as satisfying as ever

The worlds of Spyro Reignited are lifted straight from the first three games in the series, the first of which came out in 1998 but with design tweaks to make them work for a modern audience.

This includes quality-of-life improvements like regular auto-saves, updated graphics, and tweaks to level design to reduce the amount of back-tracking that was needed in the original games to complete it and grab all the collectibles.

The controls are as simple, responsive and intuitive as you remember in all three sections that we played.

The mix of action, puzzles, cute graphics and a heavy nostalgia hit should make Spyro Reignited a perfect game for parents to play with young kids who are just getting into gaming.

The new versions look at once completely new and entirely familiar

Little touches around the world across all three games bring the game up to current standards without changing it too much - dragons you rescue now have different art, for instance, rather than just being different colours.

Open spaces that were barren in 1998 have grown lush with waving grass, while voices have all been re-recorded, many by the original cast, ensuring everything feels that bit crisper and fresher than before.
