Apple’s most expensive iPhone EVER could arrive today – and the price is staggering
APPLE may be about to release its priciest iPhone ever – potentially costing a hefty £1,299.
That would make it the most expensive model by a margin of £150, and £600 costlier than last year's iPhone 8.
The tech giant is expected to unveil three new smartphones at a special iPhone launch event tonight.
These models are reportedly named the iPhone XS, the iPhone XS Max and the iPhone XC (or maybe iPhone 9).
Almost every detail about these phones has been leaked, including price.
Popular mobile news leaker has posted what he claims may be full pricing lists for all new models.
Annoyingly, the prices are listed in US dollars rather than pounds.
But Apple's pricing strategy generally means UK and US pricing are exactly the same – rather than a direct currency conversion.
That means a $699 smartphone from Apple would typically cost £699 in the UK.
Before you assume you're being ripped off (because British Sterling is worth more than US dollars), it's worth noting that Apple's US prices don't include any tax.
Here's Geskin's leaked price list for the new 2018 iPhone models:
- iPhone XC (64GB) – $699
- iPhone XC (256GB) – $849
- iPhone XS (64GB) – $899
- iPhone XS (256GB) – $1,049
- iPhone XS (512GB) – $1,199
- iPhone XS Max (64GB) – $999
- iPhone XS Max (256GB) – $1,149
- iPhone XS Max (512GB) – $1,299
New iPhones 2018 – what should you expect?
Here are the predictions from top analysts at TrendForce...
- The company plans to introduce three new iPhone models later this year
- All three models would continue to feature Face ID, and two of them would be premium versions with an AMOLED screen
- In terms of tech specs, the new iPhones may include two AMOLED versions, with a size of 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch respectively, as well as a less expensive 6.1-inch version with an LCD screen
- For the budget 6.1-inch LCD version, it will come with Face ID, Dual-SIM function, and a larger screen than its predecessor iPhone 8
- The 6.1-inch LCD model would be positioned by Apple’s main product this year, with a production share of around 50% in the new iPhone series
- As for the two premium AMOLED versions, they would both feature a memory content of 4GB
- The 6.5-inch AMOLED version would target at the premium business segment, with an extra-large screen and Dual-SIM service, but the Dual-SIM function is expected to be available only in certain regions
- All three models are expected to be shipped in September and October as previously scheduled
Last year, Apple finally hit (and broke through) a £1,000 iPhone valuation with the iPhone X.
The attractive and powerful handset cost anywhere from £999 to £1,149.
This year, Apple may beat this lofty price point with two different models – the 512GB iPhone XS at £1,199, and the 512GB iPhone XS Max at £1,299.
The new prices fall largely in line with information given to The Sun earlier this year.
Industry expert Daniel Ives told us Apple would "widen" the range of prices you can buy an iPhone at (beyond £699 to £1,149), to hook in more customers.
The bad news is that Ives predicted a budget £599/$599 model, which may not actually exist.
"We believe Apple is well aware of the sticker shock with the iPhone X and it speaks to a much more wider net it plans to cast with prices ranging from $599 to $1,000+ on the three smartphones slated for release over the next 3 to 4 months," GBH Insights' Daniel Ives told us in June.
"Apple needs to catalyze customers at all price points in this all important product cycle with the sweet spot on the $600 to $800 range."
