MORTAL KOMBAT 11 was revealed at the Game Awards last night, with a trailer showing off what might be the most brutal entry into the long-running and famously gory franchise yet.
The trailer showed fan-favourite characters Raiden and Scorpion doing battle in a ruined temple, with moves getting more and more vicious as it went on.
The game will be out in April of next year, but pre-orders are already being taken.
The trailer shows a series of brutal but non-fatal moves as Raiden dispatches a number of henchmen in a ruined temple as a host of what look to be dead monks look on.
As well as normal abilities, weapons lying around the stage are used as well, perhaps hinting at a new feature for the game next year.
The main part ends with a finishing move that's over-the-top even by Mortal Kombat standards, with Scorpion destroying most of Raiden's torso before decapatitating him -- and then impaling his head with his trademark flying chain attack.
If you do pre-order the game then you'll get access to the beta, which will presumably fine-tune combat as well as testing out online modes.
You will also be able to play as Shao Khan, the series' traditional final boss and main enemy.
The game will feature an "all new Custom Character Variation System that gives players the creative control of building customised versions of the character roster."
More information and a playable version of the game are promised in a Community Reveal Event that is coming on January 17.
The beta will be on Xbox One and PS4, and arrive in March.
