Facebook testing NEW Messenger ‘Dark Mode’ for texting at night – how to find it

The app has received a sneaky update that only some users can see

FACEBOOK wants to make it easier for you to message your mates at night – with a new Dark Mode.

The Dark Mode re-colours your Messenger app with a completely black theme, making it easier to view in low light.

There's nothing worse than picking up your phone in the night and being blinded by a glaring white app.

That's why lots of app and website makers are now offering Dark Mode settings, which stop this from happening.

Twitter and Gmail both offering Dark Modes, and now Facebook has jumped on the bandwagon too – for Messenger, anyway.

Facebook-owned WhatsApp is also testing a Dark Mode – as spotted by computer scientist and Facebook scoop machine – although it's still not widely available.

Science has suggested that bright lights (and blue light, in particular) can have a detrimental effect on your eyes, and on sleeping patterns.

So switching to Dark Mode could be good for your health.

And some users can already access it right now.

That's because Facebook is offering Dark Mode on a trial basis, so only select users can see the option.

This means you might not be able to access it unless you're lucky.

How to get Facebook Messenger Dark Mode

The first thing you'll need to do is update your Facebook app to the latest version, through the App Store or Google Play Store.

Then, open the Messenger app and go Settings and then into the 'Me' section.

There you'll find a toggle switch for Dark Mode near the bottom.

If it doesn't appear for you then you're not part of the initial test, which is just bad luck.

It's worth noting that if popular, Facebook will likely roll this feature out to everyone.

But it's also possible that Facebook ditches the feature entirely, and you never get a chance to enjoy it.

A Facebook spokesperson told The Sun: "We're conducting a small test of dark mode in a handful of markets. We don't have anything further to share at this time."
