New iPhone keyboard trick lets you text your mates in ANY language
This is one of the coolest iPhone hacks yet
IPHONE owners can now translate to and from foreign languages while texting pals.
It's all thanks to an update for Google's Gboard keyboard, an optional add-on that gives you extra typing features.
Google Translate is now built into Gboard, so anyone with an iPhone can translate languages on the fly.
It's handy for sending messages to foreign pals, or even quickly translating another language while on holiday.
"You can now use Gboard to translate to and from all the languages support by Google Translate," the company's latest Gboard update explains.
It works across all of the 100+ languages currently supported by Google Translate.
It's also worth mentioning that Gboard offers some other useful features too.
You can perform Google searches directly through the app, and choose from different themes.
But the main perk is swipe-style texting, which lets you drag your finger around the keyboard to create words – rather than tapping letters individually."
How to unlock Gboard translate feature
First, download and install the Gboard app for iOS on the Apple App Store here.
Then go into Setting and scroll down to find Gboard.
Tap into it and select Keyboards, then switch the Gboard toggle to on.
A new option called Allow Full Access will appear, which you'll also need to toggle to on.
Next, a pop-up will appear warning you about privacy risks – press 'Allow' if you want to go ahead.
Now when you open a chat app, you can tap in the bottom left to switch through to the Gboard keyboard.
To translate, tap the second box on along, which takes you through to the menu option.
Choose your languages, type your sentence, hit translate, and you'll get a translated message to send.
You can also use the clipboard icon to paste other people's messages into the translate tool, converting it back to English (or your chosen language).
