JUST 15 minutes from Bath, this secluded country hotel makes a great weekend getaway.
With 31 plush rooms and suites, impressive al fresco dining and a spa, there’s plenty to enjoy at Homewood, Freshford.
1. Where is Homewood?
Homewood hotel – – is tucked away in the Cotswolds, Somerset near the picturesque village of Freshford.
The grand hotel is close to both Frome and the city of Bath.
Easy to access by car, there is complimentary parking for guests.
Travellers arriving by public transport can take the train to Freshford, just a seven minute taxi ride from the hotel.
2. What is Homewood like?
Homewood Freshford is perfect for a cosy country getaway.
The historic country house has been transformed into a luxury hotel that carefully balances the old and the new.
Great for a family holiday or a calming weekend retreat, the hotel is easy to get to but feels far enough into the country for a proper break.
Kids and the family dog are welcome too.
3. What to do at Homewood?
The spa is not to be missed.
A quiet spot, if you get a nice day you can enjoy sitting outside on a sun lounger or enjoy a cocktail by the pool.
If the weather is cooler, the indoor spa area is fabulously cosy with a thermal pool, sauna and steam room.
Homewood is so close to Bath, guests can enjoy a day exploring the city’s many historic sites.
Head for the majestic Roman baths or wander round the city’s Regency buildings and famous Royal Crescent.
Or hire a bike and venture out into the beautiful Cotswolds countryside.
4. What is there to eat and drink at Homewood?
The outdoor terrace has recently been renovated for an incredible al fresco dining experience.
The entire kitchen is outside, complete with pizza oven and outdoor bar, and all the tables overlook the grounds.
The high-quality menu offers lots of choice including salt-and-pepper squid, St Austell Bay mussels with chips, and panna cotta.
The terrace and restaurant are open throughout winter, with new winter domes for six people overlooking the hotel’s immaculate gardens.
Breakfast can also be served on the new terrace – once you have enjoyed the new grazing board and full English, you won’t be hungry until dinner.
5. What are the rooms like at Homewood?
From double rooms to deluxe suites with private outdoor terraces and hot tubs, all of Homewood’s rooms are done to a high standard.
On our visit, we stayed in a deluxe king bedroom with an art deco style.
The bathroom was quite small but the bed was so comfortable I slept through my alarm … and almost missed breakfast.
The hotel’s 31 rooms range from cosy mews and deluxe doubles to hot tub suites and dog friendly pads, meaning there’s something for everyone.
Each room has homemade biscuits to feast on, a smeg coffee machine and a dyson hairdryer.
Homewood has recently launched a new ten bedroom Lodge with Hot Tub Garden Suites, Deluxe King Bedrooms and views of the Somerset Countryside.
