The middle eastern holiday hotspot, which has rammed full of celebrity influencers like Gabby Allen, Amber Gill and Molly-Mae Hague has seen a spike in cases - which have doubled in a week.

It was removed from the safe list tonight, meaning passengers returning need to self-isolate for 10 days on their return from Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said: "The LATEST data indicates we need to immediately remove the #UAE from the #TRAVELCORRIDOR list.

"From 0400 Tuesday 12 Jan anyone arriving from the UAE will need to SELF-ISOLATE."

He later tweeted: "Current NATIONAL RESTRICTIONS do not permit international travel other than for specific reasons.

"Ignoring the rules costs lives. Inconsiderate and selfish behaviour puts others at risk & is unfair to those following the rules to beat the virus.

"Stay at home. Save lives."

Scotland had already removed the United Arab Emirates - which includes holiday destinations Dubai and Abu Dhabi - from the list.

Scots Transport Secretary Michael Matheson said: “Imposing quarantine requirements on those arriving in the UK is our first defence in managing the risk of imported cases from communities with high risks of transmission.

"That is why we have made the decision to remove Dubai from the country exemptions list.”

As a "hub" destination it also removes quarantine free travel from destinations in the far east.
