Cheap Gibraltar holidays from £105pp as country makes UK green list for quarantine-free travel

GIBRALTAR has been placed on the UK travel "green" list, meaning holidays there can go ahead quarantine-free from May 17.

The green list is part of the UK's traffic light scheme, and it allows holidays to go ahead with few restrictions for British travellers.

Countries are classified as either green, amber, or red, depending on the state of the pandemic and rate of vaccinations.

Brits who travel to "green" list countries will be able to return to England without quarantine restrictions but will require a pre-flight Covid test as well as a PCR test on day two of returning to the UK.

Gibraltar has been placed on the "green" list as it has offered the vaccine to every adult, making it the first country to do so.

Gibraltar has reported just 4,286 cases since the pandemic began, with 94 deaths. Officials there recently reported that the destination is "Covid-free", having reported no new cases since May 4, and it has a 100 per cent vaccination rate. The destination however, is yet to reopen to tourists just yet, including Brits.

If you want to book a holiday to Gibraltar for a bit later in the year, when hopefully the destination allows UK tourists, these are some of the best deals:

  • Easyjet Holidays 3-nights June 3* Hotel Bristol bed and breakfast
  • Thomas Cook 3-night July Hotel Elliott bed and breakfast
  • British Airways Holidays 4* Hotel Rock 3-nights June

May 17 is the start date for holidays abroad, as the Government continues to ease the lockdown restrictions and the Commons Transport Committee says the travel industry needs time to prepare.

Those countries that are on the "Amber" list require a negative Covid test before arrival in the UK, plus two further tests once in the country and a ten-day quarantine at home.

Arrivals from "red" list countries would have to isolate at a quarantine hotel for 10 days, at a cost of £1,750.
