IT’S going to be the summer of the staycation for millions of Brit families when the school holidays kick off.

But a break in Britain need not be boring. Across the country there are plenty of quirky places to stay that kids will love so much, they won't even miss going abroad.

This year, school summer holidays dates run from Monday, July 26 to Tuesday, August 31.

And from July 19, there will be no restrictions on group sizes for holidays, although the dates for coming out of lockdown are not set in stone.

Families who want something a bit different this year can stay somewhere a bit weirder than usual.

We've found the best quirky properties to book for over the school holidays, from castles to treehouses.

It's an 'earth home', with a green roof covered in plants. Guests can dine al fresco in the garden and explore Canterbury’s historic centre and nearby beaches.
