France to loosen UK travel ban – just weeks after reintroducing it
FRANCE will soon open its doors to a larger number of Brits, just weeks after the country banned UK holidaymakers.
A French government spokesperson confirmed that restrictions will soon be eased for certain travellers, because the Omicron threat is affecting both countries in a similar way.
He said in a weekly press briefing, reported by , that they had decided to expand the list of compelling reasons – in particular, "professional reasons".
He added that it was because “the Omicron variant is affecting both countries in a similar manner”.
When the restrictions will be lifted is yet to be made clear, but it is another boost for Brits wanting to travel to the country.
France announced the travel ban on December 16, stating that all arrivals must have an "essential reason to travel to, or come from, the UK, both for the unvaccinated and vaccinated".
This did not include for tourism or professional reasons.
France isn't the only country restricting travel rules now Omicron has progressed across Europe.

Germany lifted the travel ban on UK tourists just weeks after introducing it.
And pre-departure tests are expected to be scrapped today, so Brits will no longer be required to take a Covid test before entering the UK.
Other countries, however, are introducing stricter controls at the border.
Cyprus now requires negative Covid tests from all arrivals, even if fully vaccinated, while Hong Kong is to ban all UK flights for two weeks.
