Mollie’s Motel & Diner, Oxfordshire review

Until recently motels were something you only really saw in American movies and they never looked that inviting – but that’s certainly not true for Mollie’s.

Their first motel opened in Oxfordshire in 2019, followed by a Bristol branch last year and now plans are well underway for a Manchester Mollie's, due to open early next year and set to be the best yet. Here's what to expect...

Rooms are minimalist and trendy with bowl lamps jutting-out from walls and Scandi-chic furniture everywhere.

Where is Mollie's Motel & Diner?

Just off the A420 road and a 25-minute drive from Oxford town centre, isn't really within walking distance of anywhere, but that's what you'd expect for a motel on a busy A-road.

The easiest way to get there is by car, although you can grab a train to Oxford and then a bus or taxi to the hotel.

What is Mollie's Motel & Diner like?

Mollie’s Motel & Diner is the low-cost little sister of swanky members club, Although, you’d never know it was budget.

It’s kitted out with the same and toiletries as the other hotels.

It doesn’t matter that it’s not immediately near the shops either, as anything you’ve forgotten, they’ll have at the reception – including a great snack selection of Candy Kittens, Tony’s Chocolonely and chilled beer.

What is there to do at Mollie's Motel & Diner?

If you're itching for a drink, then there's a pub, just a 15-minute walk down the road.

The impressive diner is where most guests spend the evening, or there's the “General Store”, which is basically a lobby, with comfy sofas and a chic working space with plenty of charging sockets.

There's also a mini shop selling toothpaste and toiletries, sweets, chilled beers and herbal teas and coffee.

The likelihood is, though, if you're staying here then you'll be heading off into Oxford city centre for the day.

Here you can take a walking tour of the famous university and it's incredible architecture or go on a punting trip down the river.

What is there to eat and drink at Mollie's Motel & Diner?

If you’re dieting, head elsewhere. If not, whack on your comfies and slide into a diner-style booth for a slap up dinner of loaded burgers, humungous fried mozzarella sticks and thick shakes topped with whipped cream and drizzled in sauce.

It’s proper American-style grub here, but they do have salads if you’re after something a little lighter.

It’s not just hotel guests that eat at the Diner either, on a Saturday night it’s crammed with locals, while outside cars queue for the drive-thru.

The breakfast menu is equally indulgent and delicious.

Go for the build-your-own French toast where you can pick from a number of toppings and sauces - I chose bananas, chocolate and caramel sauce.

If you can't be bothered to wander downstairs, each hallway has a filter and boiling water tap with cups.

Bathrooms are crammed full with Cowshed soap, shampoo and lotion - not the small bottles either, so you can completely slather yourself in the stuff without panicking about running out halfway through your stay.
