Why you should always sit at the back of a rollercoaster to have the best time at a theme park

IF YOU'VE ever been to a theme park, you'll have seen that some rollercoasters have special lines for people who want to sit at the front of the ride.

Often people think that the front seat of a rollercoaster is the fastest, but that isn't actually the case.

Martin Cowdrey, an electrical engineer at Chessington World of Adventures, revealed that if you want to go the fastest, you should head to the other end of the rollercoaster.

He told Sun Online Travel: "When you go over the top of a ride, the fastest place to sit is at the back of the rollercoaster, not the front.

"At the back you're waiting for the drop while you're still facing upwards, so when the ride goes over, you get whipped round so that's where it feels fastest.

"You also queue longer to get on the front as it's always the most popular spot because people like to be able to see where they're going."

"So if you want to go fastest and save a bit of time, you should head to the back."

It's not just where you're sitting that determines how fast you'll go.

Brian Morrow, corporate vice president for theme park experiences at SeaWorld, revealed the time of day also has an impact on the speed of a rollercoaster.

He told : "A coaster running in the morning could run slower when cooler.

"The wheels are not as warm, the bearings are warming up. That could be different by 2pm with a slicked-up wheel chassis."

So if you want to go as fast as possible, you should wait until later in the day and sit at the back of a rollercoaster.

In other theme park news, the planning application for a £3.5bn park dubbed the 'UK Disneyland' was withdrawn earlier this week.

The project, which was scheduled to open by 2025, has run into a number of problems since it began, mostly due to its location on the Swanscombe Peninsula in Kent.

Developers say they plan to resubmit the application for the London Resort later this year.
